Pothole claim

A pothole is a road defect, and the authority that maintains the road has a duty to keep it safe under section 41 of the Highways Act 1980. If a pothole damaged your car, you can claim the cost back. The pothole builder walks you through it, then hands your claim straight into a real case here.

  1. 1

    Tell us where and when

The road, the postcode, and when it happened. We work out which authority looks after that road, because that is who you claim from.

  2. 2

Add your photos and the cost

Pictures of the pothole and the damage, and what the repair cost. The more you show, the stronger the claim.

  3. 3

Push it into a real case

When you press Save to Claim in Hand, your pothole claim becomes a real case here, with the council set as the defendant and your details already filled in.
